At Wesley Chapel MMA our instructors train monthly with Marc Gervais, Team Captain of the East West Combat Club out of Syracuse NY. Mr. Gervais is a fourth degree black belt and a veteran grappling and MMA competitor. We also attend many seminars each year to train with BJJ Black Belt Hermes Franca, from Fortaleza, Brazil, who makes his living as an MMA artist in the United States and is a regular fighter on UFC cards. Hermes Franca has had an association with Brazilian Top Team and the American Top Team in the past. We strive to bring YOU the very best in mixed martial arts training.

Muay Thai is referred to as "The Art of the Eight Limbs", as the hands, shins, elbows, and knees are all used extensively in this art. A practitioner of Muay Thai ("nak muay") thus has the ability to execute strikes using eight "points of contact," as opposed to "two points" (fists) in Western boxing and "four points" (fists, feet) used in the primarily sport-oriented forms of martial arts.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting with the goal of gaining a dominant position and using joint-locks and chokeholds to force an opponent to submit or be knocked out depending on what submission method is used. The art is a derivative of early 20th century Kodokan Judo, which was itself then a recently-developed system (founded in 1882), based on multiple schools of Japanese Jujutsu.

It promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person using leverage and proper technique can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant. BJJ can be applied for self defense, sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi) and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition. Sparring (commonly referred to as 'rolling') and live drills play a major role in training, and a premium is placed on performance, especially in competition.

"Escrima" refers to a class of Filipino Martial Arts that emphasize stick and sword fighting. Other terms which have entered into common usage include "Kali" and "Arnis de Máno" ("harness of the hand").

Teaching of the basic skills in FMA is traditionally simplified. With limited time to teach flashy and intricate techniques, only skills that were proven effective in battle and could easily be taught en masse were used. This allowed villagers, generally not professional soldiers, a measure of protection against other villages, as well as foreign invaders.
